Course Description
This educational activity is intended for physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners practicing emergency medicine in rural areas.

The 2½ day course will include morning didactic presentations and afternoon hands-on skills labs on numerous lifesaving procedures. Selected presentations will include orthopedic injuries, pediatric and difficult airway, care of the geriatric patient, the poisoned patient, acute stroke, sedation, stabilization/transfer, pulmonary embolism, and psychiatric considerations.

Course Objectives
1. Recognize patients who require rapid assessment and • acute intervention in the Emergency Department.
2. Design a plan for the management and intervention of • the acutely ill patient.
3. Apply learned skills in the acute care setting.
